Great and Wonderful Times - by Ursula Turner

"Before coming to live permanently at Jervis Bay in 1983 (Vincentia and then Woollamia) I walked regularly with the Sydney Bushwalkers (a group from W.E.A.). While on a trip through Central Australia in 1983 Don and I met Audrey and Wally Eastwood, first at Alice Springs and later along the Oodnadatta Track. We found out that they were also living in the Bay and Basin area, wanted to move house and were members of the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers. When we returned from our outback tour to Woollamia the Eastwoods became our neighbours. It was through these meetings that we also joined the Shoalhaven Bushwalking Club. The first walk Don and I did with the Club was to Christian's Minde on Sussex Inlet."

Ursula had so enjoyed the mid-week walks with the Sydney Bushwalkers she wanted to start a similar group and became one of the leaders in 1987. With Ursula's enthusiasm and with the local knowledge of members like Wally Eastwood and May Leatch, these Wednesday Walks were an instant success. They attracted many non-working and retired people and are still an important part of the Club's program.
