Walks Program Changes

Sylvia Arthur's walk from Red Point to Callala Bay on February 8th has changed slightly. Cars will now be parked at the Callala Bay Boat Ramp as the road into Red Point has been closed to traffic until mid year.

Lee Cordner's Southwest Tasmania walks in March 2012 have been moved to late February, and he is only doing the Precipitous Bluff walk. Contact Lee on 0427 333 034 if interested.

You have been warned !!!
In 2012 the club is instigating a policy of spot checks of backpack contents during walks, to ensure that club members are carrying the required safety items - whistle, first aid kit, thermals, wet weather gear, matches etc.

Who to Call?
Leaders - immediately after the completion of your walks, please phone Tony Simmonds on 4422-9425 to let him know of your safe return, and the number of people you had on your walk.

Advance Notice
3-10 March 2012 - Snowy Mountains Walks
Jim Graham (4456-1305, 0418 740 877). Use our Snowgums Ski Lodge as a base for day walks and an optional 2-3 day overnight walk. Walks will depend on weather and participants. There are lots of options: car shuffles will allow us to explore. Stay for a few days or the week.

The Lodge is cosy and well fitted out with seven bedrooms and communal living arrangements and modern newly appointed kitchen. It is self catering and all guests are required to do a share of cleaning, rubbish removal etc. Guests must also bring all their own linen and towels.

Cost: $90 for the week or $15 per night per person. Full payment needed to confirm booking. Cost does not include National Park Entry fees.

Walking Books!
Two of our committee members, Gill and John Souter, have produced two walking books that cover the areas we mostly use. The first is "Best Bush, Coast and Village walks of the Shoalhaven" and the second is "Best Bush, Coast and Village Walks of the Illawarra". Both are full-colour and each contains over 300 photos and maps. As well as being a terrific guide for all of us, these books should be of great assistance to leaders when planning and conducting walks.

You can buy these books from John and Gill at a modest discount of $28 each or $55 for the two. John and Gill don't have credit card facilities, but will happily take cash or cheques, or can arrange direct bank transfers. Contact them on 4443-7555.
